For the first time, eight India's tech startups will take part in the India to America (I2A) Launchpad program, aimed at assisting them in accessing new commercial markets, partnering with the United States Department of Defense and the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU), and advancing INDUS-X, a defense innovation initiative between both nations.
The selected startups are dual-use technology firms operating in space, unmanned systems, remote sensing, and various important technology areas. The programme, spanning four months and comprising various workshops for startups, is spearheaded by Indian investor Indusbridge Ventures and US-based FedTech. The event began last week in Mumbai, where startups gathered for in-person discussions with several advisors.
Startups that ET interviewed indicated they consider the chance to establish partnerships, contracts, and funding that could influence their upcoming years. Although there is no assurance of obtaining contracts, the program will link to companies like Lockheed Martin and RTX, stated one of the startups.
"These workshops are designed to give us inputs on structuring our company to align with US investor expectations. They cover everything from setting up offices and distribution channels to navigating regulatory frameworks,” said Big Bang Boom Solutions (BBBS) Cofounder, R Shivaraman.
He added that during the interactions they are learning about the differences between incorporating in California versus Delaware and choosing the best model based on the nature of the company.
