The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, partners with ZEISS India to drive AI-driven research in eye care. This collaboration will see the establishment of a world-class research facility for developing high-fidelity AI solutions for early diagnosis and better patient outcomes. ZEISS representatives in the participatory research effort plan to exploit the transformative power of AI for ophthalmology, with the backing of the Spectrum Lab in the IISc's Department of Electrical Engineering.
In a bid to integrate this new partnership with the aim of combating the global prevalence of vision impairments by developing AI-driven solutions for improving diagnostic accuracy, IISc and ZEISS India will work closely to research and steer advancements in AI technologies in eye care for more efficient and effective processes.
"This collaboration is a significant step toward empowering Indian researchers and advancing global eye-care innovation. Partnerships like these demonstrate how private players can accelerate innovation by leveraging academic expertise, leading to breakthrough technologies with real-world impact", said Dr. Rajesh Sundaresan, Dean of Division (Electrical Electronics, and Computer Sciences Division).
As a part of this project, ZEISS India will sponsor six MTech students under its CSR-funded 'MTech Fellowship Program' at the IISc over the next three years. Fellowships will support MTech students in the areas of Signal Processing, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science & Engineering, and Computational and Data Science, thereby building further research capabilities in AI for healthcare.
